Artis 150 Jaar (Snake)

When I say "snakebite", do you think of Red-bellied black envenomation or the alcoholic beverage (which contains equal parts cider and lager)?   Hmm – I’d prefer the later! The snake ARTIS has chosen for their 150th anniversary poster is an Eastern Coralsnake.  The bite from this snake, found in south-eastern North Carolina to extreme-eastern Louisiana, can potentially lead to severe neurotoxicity, including complete respiratory failure.  A creature only an ophiophilist could love but the 'striking' poster makes a great talking point. 

ARTIS was founded under the name Natura Artis Magistra in 1838, with the objective of "Promoting the knowledge of Natural History". In 1988 ARTIS celebrated its 150th anniversary.
