L'Alsacienne was a French biscuit brand. Their packaging featured a young girl from the Alsace region of France (young Sophie) who wore a traditional provincial costume. Sophie's image was used to remind the French of their province, ceded by France to Germany in 1871 after the Franco-Prussian War, returned to France after World War I, occupied by the Germans in World War II, then again restored to France.
In 1959 Sophie was given a makeover by poster artist Hervé Morvan. She is depicted here acclaiming the delicious biscuits made with fresh eggs.
