Before Paul Simon sang about "Diamonds on the soles of her shoes", Andy Wahol literally used Diamond Dust to screen print his famous Diamond Dust Shoes. Originally commissioned by fashion designer and friend Roy Halston Frowick to do an Ad campaign, Warhol received a box of Halston's shoes. The shoes were tipped onto the floor and the way the shoes fell appealed to Warhol who added shoes from his own colletion and took polaroid images of them. Thus the Diamond Dust Shoes series was created capturing the excess and glamour of the 1970's and 80's
"I'm doing shoes because I'm going back to my roots. In fact, I think maybe I should do nothing but shoes from now on." — Andy Warhol
The original series was created in 1980. This version is an offset-lithograph print from a later reproduction, authorized by the Andy Warhol Foundation
