Original mini posters with artwork by Liska were produced in the 1950s as celebratory literature after race wins. This poster celebrates Mercedes Benz Grand Prix France 1954 win but actually depicts the #20 car, a Mercedes-Benz W196 (Continental) driven by Karl Kling, which finished 2nd. We also have the Mercedes Benz Grand Prix Italy 1954 poster in the mini sizing. These posters compliment the larger (W 60cm x H 84cm) posters we have on offer;
Mercedes-Benz (Triumph silver arrows) and Mercedes-Benz (and again) all 1954 wins.
The 1954 French Grand Prix Formula One motor race was held on the 4th of July at Reins. The 61-lap race, perhaps the most famous of the traditional European road circuits - and certainly among the fastest, took place on the on ordinary country roads located near to the village of Gueux in the Champagne region of France. The flat out blast of the RN31, provided a straight to rival the Mulsanne at Le Mans. The race enjoyed great slipstreaming battles on the track and, unusual for a temporary road course, the circuit boasted proper pit facilities and grandstands opposite.
While the course held its last race in 1972, the pit facilities and grandstands remain in place, now partially restored thanks to the efforts of local enthusiasts. (https://www.racingcircuits.info/europe/france/reims.html)
This was race 4 of 9 in the 1954 World Championship of Drivers and was won by Mercedes driver Juan-Manuel Fangio, after starting from pole position, driving a Mercedes-Benz W196 (Continental)
