Dupin has used grayscale shades to accentuate and define the quality and firm, rounded, and hydrated appearance of the grapes, even highlighting the silvery, wax-like coating known as "bloom". The French text indicates "magnificent harvests". In the 1930's, Soufre Gré was marketed in the Bordeaux region of France, which is famous for its extensive vineyards. The poster is not an advertisement for wine from the Bordeaux region nor for excellent eating grapes, but for a sulfur-based fungicide used in vineyards to protect grapes against diseases such as powdery and downy mildew.
Despite its real message, what a great poster for a bar or wine cellar. Simple yet prepossessing.
