This interesting piece was produced to promote a performance of Tchaikovsky's Swan Lake, by the Croatian National Ballet in Glassboro New Jersey in 1988.

Swan Lake was originally commissioned in 1875 by the director of the Moscow Imperial Theatre.  A mixture of Russian and German folk tales, it tells the tale of Odette, a princess who has been turned into a swan by the evil sorcerer Rothbart and Prince Siegfried, who is in search of a bride.  Siegfried meets Odette when out hunting. falls in love with her and vows to break the spell. He is later tricked by Rothbart into declaring his love for another disguised as Odette and this declaration prevents him from breaking the spell.  Tragically, the distraught lovers choose to die together, breaking Rothbart’s power and causing his death too.

A wonderful poster for any ballet enthusiast or aspiring ballerina.
